Health Tips for Pilgrims During the 2024 Hajj Season

The health ministry has issued some guidelines for pilgrims.

The Hajj season will begin on Friday, Jun. 14, so Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj has issued some health guidelines for pilgrims as temperatures are set to increase significantly during the pilgrimage.

Saudi's National Center for Meteorology has said that the average high temperature of 44 degrees Celsius in Makkah during Hajj, so the weather will be very hot during the day. 

Tip to Avoid Dehydration and Sunstroke

The health ministry has advised pilgrims to carry umbrellas to avoid direct exposure to the sun. They are also advised to drink a lot of water and eat fruits and vegetables that contain water to avoid dehydration. 

Pilgrims are also directed to have sufficient rest periods to reduce the chances of fatigue and heat stress during the pilgrimage.

Chances of pilgrims experiencing sunstroke during Hajj are high and the condition has been deemed a medical emergency by the health ministry. 

If a pilgrim is experiencing sunstroke, he or she should be transferred to a cool place with an air conditioner or a fan and provided lots of fluids to recover. 

The Hajj season will run until the thirteenth Dhul Hijjah (Sunday, Jun. 19).
