Sheikh Saleh Al Shaibi, the 109th successor in a lineage dating back centuries, passed away on Saturday at the age of 82. He was the 77th family member to carry on the tradition that began with Uthman bin Talha, a companion of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

Responsibilities and Contributions

As the chief key holder, Al Shaibi was responsible for the maintenance of the Kaaba, repairing its Kiswa (the cloth covering), and overseeing various related tasks. His role was crucial in preserving the sanctity and upkeep of one of Islam's holiest sites.

Academic Achievements

Beyond his custodial duties, Al Shaibi was an esteemed scholar with a doctorate in Islamic studies. He authored several books on religion and history, significantly contributing to both the spiritual and academic communities.

Sheikh Saleh Al Shaibi was laid to rest at Al Mu’alla Cemetery in Makkah, surrounded by family and mourners. His passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue through his family's ongoing stewardship of the Kaaba.
