Egyptian Plane Catches Fire During Takeoff at Dammam Airport

On July 18, 2024, an Airbus A320 operated by Nile Air caught fire while taking off from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The plane, carrying 194 people, experienced a fire in its wheel system just after beginning its takeoff for Cairo.

Emergency crews responded swiftly to the fire, managing to extinguish it and safely evacuate all passengers and crew. The 186 passengers and 8 crew members were evacuated using emergency slides. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Ongoing Investigation

The National Transport Safety Center confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. King Fahd International Airport officials noted that flight operations continued as usual after the incident.
