New Snake Species Discovered in AlUla

A new snake species, Rhynchocalamus hejazicus, has been discovered in AlUla, northwestern Saudi Arabia

The new species is non-venomous and is part of a genus found in Yemen, Jordan, and Oman.

The snake species has a slight reddish hue and a black collar. It is adapted to the sandy and rocky environments of the mountainous Hijaz region.

The species is nocturnal, but more of its characteristics are yet to be discovered.

Conservationists welcome the new snake species as an addition to the local ecosystem.

Saudi Arabia is home to six nature reserves, which are home to more than 1,580 animals from four species that have been reintroduced to the region.

The discovery of this new snake species boosts AlUla's reputation as a sanctuary for historical and natural treasures.
